Long Live Grunge!!

Wow where do I begin?
I'll start off by saying Grunge is one of my favorite genres of all time!
It made a lasting impact on both my life and popular culture despite its super brief lifespan.
Bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains paved the way for modern alternative rock.





Born in Seattle Washington during the late 1980's, Grunge music is described as messy and un-refined with roots tracing back to punk and metal. It is comprised of distorted electric guitars, grumbling vocals, and lyrics that express a number of topics from Social rejection to Politics.


The simplicity of Grunge rock translated to clothing too. A stripped down anti-fashion attitude developed to coincide with the gritty sound which included untidy hair, flannel shirts, ill fitting jeans, baby doll dresses and anything else that could be found at thrift stores for cheap.

Ironically, this look hit mainstream and now Grunge is considered a fashion statement. Famed designer Marc Jacobs brought it to the catwalk during the mid 1990's.



Mary-Kate Olsen is particularly known for resurrecting the grunge look with her own high fashion twist in 2006. Since then girls everywhere strive to create the perfect 'homeless chic' ensemble.

Despite it's current oversaturation, I will forever love grunge and what it stood for. Cheers to rebels of the underground!

on a Minneapolis' independent music station, 89.3 The Current

TODAY!

In true "I don't mess around with my Prince" fashion..I woke up @ 7 am to catch it
and can I just say IT IS EXPLOSIVE!!!

Pure Prince,Pure Message,Pure Talent,Pure Guitar, and with an opening line like
"I am here.Where are you?"
need I say more!


Now..this next bit made me feel a lil stalkerish,although I do get a lil weak at the knees at the sound of the mans music,I've never written anything anywhere(besides here lol) expressing my feelings..
But in true FF form,we spread love all over,so I spread love and gave
Kudos where kudos were due!

Fireworks!

Lately I've been dreaming away these rainy days by imagining all that summer will bring... in my brain, there is always a soundtrack and an outfit to go with every occassion...

And this week I can't get enough of Nujabes, music producer Jun Seba from Japan. I'm thinking- this song (btw, Hanabi means fireworks in Japanese) playing as the backdrop to a balmy day in late June, when they're practicing for the 4th of July fireworks, strolling arm in arm with a bestie, sippin iced green teas, no real place to be...

Fireworks also make me think of this jewel, FunkyFanny's of course :-)..

Like, after the finale has gone down, and the air is filled with embers and smoke? That's After Hanabi!

When I was younger, I was absolutely sure of 2 things..

• I was gonna be Punky Brewster when I turned 13

• I was gonna marry Michael Jackson,Prince,Ralph Tresvant,ALL of Duran Duran and El DeBarge when I turned 17 (hey,I was keepin it big love ;-)
  

So imagine my surprise when I found this AMAZING jewel that I hadn't seen in FOR-EVER! (Although my "past future hubby in my mind" isn't on this,it's way too priceless to not share)

Nuthin to Worry About....

I don't know about you guys, but in my past life I think I was a "worry wart", ya know, one of those people that worry about this, and worry about that, and worry and worry and worry
(you get the picture).

Well, I've noticed that a lil bit of that worryin still creeps into my present life.
Not too much, but a lil here and there...And although I embrace it as part of human nature,
I realize more and more that worry just leads to more worry!
Like getting water on a Gremlin,once you start honey,its OVA..

After incessantly listenin to Bobby McFerrin's "Don't worry Be happy" over the years,I've claimed a brand new anthem of sorts..
One that makes me schoolgirl happy..One that starts my toes tappin,which turns to thigh slappin and moves on up to full "SHAKE IT, POP IT" status in record time...OWWWWWW!!!
